Hi. I've officially given up on Sekiro, but decided to go back and try my hand at Bloodborne again. Gonna maybe stream it on YouTube if anyone wants to see me suck and give me some points.

As much as I love(d) Dark Souls and Demons, I couldn't get into BB due to the lack of weapon options, customization, drab colorless world and extreme choppiness. Game felt like it was running on 14 fps the whole time. Lots of ppl say they like it the most though. Have fun getting gud.

it was fun watching you. Blood borne is my least favorite of the souls games. Just not for me.

I feel like I know Bloodborne intimately enough to be of some assistance, should you need any. Platinum'd it a few years back, so I was living and breathing Yharnam for a while there. Hope you like it more this time around!

Which is funny, considering Bloodborne has the most versatile weapon selection of the lot.

I sort of encountered the same issue I had with Sekiro: played for like an hour, made virtually no progress. That always feels a bit disheartening. I find it more enjoyable to actually play than Sekiro, but, yeah. I *feel* like I might get it this time around.

I looked up BB weapon count. 26 weapons (11 are guns) in all. How is that a more versatile weapon selection than a souls game, which has 100+ weapons to choose from?

Posted April 15th by Kaot0

I don't remember dark souls 1 or 2 having 100+ weapons

Streaming some more. I think I'm just gonna keep streaming this game to sort of keep myself accountable for giving it the ol' college try.

I really enjoyed the combat in BB, but eventually I reached a point in the game where enemies stopped dropping health vials and I eventually ran low. And then it seemed like the only way forward was to go farm them elsewhere (or farm to buy them), which kinda put the brakes on the experience in favor of mindless busywork. Definitely prefer the typical Souls mechanic of refilling your HP/FP item at the bonfire.

I think I made it to the Nightmare of Mensis before I stopped playing. Keep meaning to go back and finish it. How close to the end was I?

Posted April 15th by Count Dooku

Yeah. I prefer the Estus Flask system of health.

I also totally prefer Dark Souls I letting you level up at bonfires instead of having to go to a hub world like in Demons's Souls, DSII, DSIII, and Bloodborne. Like, I don't really get the decision. It's functionally identical, except that you have to go through a couple load screens and talk to someone to level up rather than just quickly navigate a menu.

I've made it to the my first boss in Bloodborne, so this is progress.

I had this happen a few bosses in, and it's not ideal.

in practice though, it,,,kinda wasn't the worst thing, when I thought about it. Forced me to take a step back and recenter myself mentally, cool off from any "what the fuck that was bullshit fuck this dumb game that did not hit me it did naaaaaaaht" vibes so I could approach it calmly the next time. Carelessness and trying to rush things are really good ways to end up dead and angry. I took a few minutes to do a quick run-around of the city streets at the very start of the game; killing enemies was pretty effortless and they frequently dropped vials so my stock built back up quickly.

so it seemed to me like it might be a blessing in disguise for a newer player, in a sense.

I did a lot of jumping around back and forth between areas around then, which makes it trickier to tell, but from what I remember you were pretty close.

a highlight of last night

*Jet proceeds to slide down a ladder*

Jet: "Lets see what happens when I go down this way"

*proceeds to take an enemy axe to the face*

Blood Borne in a nutshell.

Another highlight:

Me: "Ok, I remember that that guy is hiding right there and I need to..."

Enemy: BURSTS OUT AND IMMEDIATELY TAKES OFF HALF MY HEALTH.

Part 3 streaming now!

We fightin' a boss tonight, son!

Posted April 16th by Jet Presto

Ok! I defeated Cleric Beast. The first time I ran into it, it completely destroyed me. So I assumed it would do so again. Beat it on my second try.

Did pretty ok my first attempt against Father G tonight, but my attempts only got worse. We'll try again tomorrow.

I feel like this is starting to click. Just need to get a little better at parrying with Father G.

Posted April 17th by Jet Presto

I sort of agree in regards to the Hunter's Dream, but it does serve a purpose narratively, and I admittedly quite liked retreating their for a respite.

If you can, try to keep tombstones between you and Gascoigne. A long weapon like the transformed Hunter's Axe or Threaded Cane can still do damage across them. Also, do you by any chance have the Tiny Music Box?

Posted April 17th by Orion Nebula

I feel like I just need to get more consistent at parrying. My first try last night, I did pretty well. Parried him like, six times and he transformed with less than a quarter of health. Later attempts, I just couldn't get the timing right (or would get stuck on tombstones).

I do have the tiny music box.

Posted April 17th by Jet Presto

Okay. I don’t know if you were following that story thread closely, but keep the music box in mind.

Posted April 17th by Orion Nebula

Yeah. The little girl who wants me to find her mother. I'm assuming that's her father. I've used it a few times. Does it do anything other than halt him for a moment?

Posted April 17th by Jet Presto

No, but it’s invaluable during his beast phase. It’ll give you a window to throw some Molotov cocktails his way, and/or backstab him. Pretty sure it’ll only work twice before he’s immune, though.

Posted April 17th by Orion Nebula

Dang. Would have been good to know my first attempt last night. Twice would have allowed me to succeed, really.

Didn't get to play tonight. Hopefully soon. I feel victory in my bones.

Posted April 17th by Jet Presto

Going after Father G tonight.

Posted April 20th by Jet Presto

Phew. Down he goes!

Got a little frustrated, but got it done on my fifth try of the evening. I see the Dark Souls III trend of putting lamp posts right after a boss, and then like 30 seconds later in a new area started here.

Posted April 21st by Jet Presto

Just a tip: it can be helpful switching out your gun for a torch for areas with low visibility. It also acts a deterrent for some enemies.

You have a couple options of where to go next, by the way. The "Hunters not wanted" door below the tomb can opened to access Old Yharnam; it's only a warning.

Posted April 22nd by Orion Nebula

Ooooh. Ok. I imagine that is the door I want to go through, then. (Couldn't quite figure out where to go.)

Posted April 24th by Jet Presto

Now that you've finished watching all your favorite Game of Thrones characters die, watch me die some more as I try to defeat another boss (emphasis on "try").

Posted April 28th by Jet Presto

Oh. I beat the Blood-Starved Beast on my first attempt tonight. Weird.

Posted April 28th by Jet Presto

Posted April 28th by Renzokuken

Well, I expected to have to do that fight for a while tonight. Gonna call it a night since I got it on my first go of the evening, and now I'm pretty lost.

Posted April 28th by Jet Presto

Sucking some more tonight. Hopefully can find where to go.

Sucking at Bloodborne some more. I woke up in some prison place and have no idea where I am.

Posted May 3rd by Jet Presto

ohhhhhhh boy jet got got by the bagman

Posted May 3rd by Pirate_Ninja

Oh you saw that? That's why I wound up in some prison?

I felt soooo frustrated in that place. I felt so, so underpowered. It felt super cheap. And then I found that there's a pretty close lamppost that I can use to warp. So, I've made progress, sort of. Except I inevitably wound up at another dead end locked-door.

Not quite sure where I'm supposed to be going at this point, to be honest.

Posted May 4th by Jet Presto

actually no, but when you said you woke up in a strange jail it seemed to fit the bill - getting nabbed by those creeps gets you tossed in there (only the first time, as I recall), and while I remember it being a scary place I don't have much memory of exactly why beyond "scary things killed me." There was a handy unique weapon there, if memory serves, but it's not really a place you need to be early on - definitely a "find the lamp and GTFO" trip for new players.

I've popped into the stream a couple times on a not-logged-in computer (I only seem to see your stream notices when I'm busy or playing a game myself or something), so I'm pretty sure I got some idea where you were (that tower where you parried a big boy, then tried to sneak up on a ledge sniper only to get caught by the guy giving him cover).

me speculating on where I think you might be headed, feel free to ignore if you don't want it:
