Hi. I've officially given up on Sekiro, but decided to go back and try my hand at Bloodborne again. Gonna maybe stream it on YouTube if anyone wants to see me suck and give me some points.

As much as I love(d) Dark Souls and Demons, I couldn't get into BB due to the lack of weapon options, customization, drab colorless world and extreme choppiness. Game felt like it was running on 14 fps the whole time. Lots of ppl say they like it the most though. Have fun getting gud.

it was fun watching you. Blood borne is my least favorite of the souls games. Just not for me.

I feel like I know Bloodborne intimately enough to be of some assistance, should you need any. Platinum'd it a few years back, so I was living and breathing Yharnam for a while there. Hope you like it more this time around!

Which is funny, considering Bloodborne has the most versatile weapon selection of the lot.

I sort of encountered the same issue I had with Sekiro: played for like an hour, made virtually no progress. That always feels a bit disheartening. I find it more enjoyable to actually play than Sekiro, but, yeah. I *feel* like I might get it this time around.

I looked up BB weapon count. 26 weapons (11 are guns) in all. How is that a more versatile weapon selection than a souls game, which has 100+ weapons to choose from?

I don't remember dark souls 1 or 2 having 100+ weapons

Streaming some more. I think I'm just gonna keep streaming this game to sort of keep myself accountable for giving it the ol' college try.

I really enjoyed the combat in BB, but eventually I reached a point in the game where enemies stopped dropping health vials and I eventually ran low. And then it seemed like the only way forward was to go farm them elsewhere (or farm to buy them), which kinda put the brakes on the experience in favor of mindless busywork. Definitely prefer the typical Souls mechanic of refilling your HP/FP item at the bonfire.

I think I made it to the Nightmare of Mensis before I stopped playing. Keep meaning to go back and finish it. How close to the end was I?

Yeah. I prefer the Estus Flask system of health.

I also totally prefer Dark Souls I letting you level up at bonfires instead of having to go to a hub world like in Demons's Souls, DSII, DSIII, and Bloodborne. Like, I don't really get the decision. It's functionally identical, except that you have to go through a couple load screens and talk to someone to level up rather than just quickly navigate a menu.

I've made it to the my first boss in Bloodborne, so this is progress.

I had this happen a few bosses in, and it's not ideal.

in practice though, it,,,kinda wasn't the worst thing, when I thought about it. Forced me to take a step back and recenter myself mentally, cool off from any "what the fuck that was bullshit fuck this dumb game that did not hit me it did naaaaaaaht" vibes so I could approach it calmly the next time. Carelessness and trying to rush things are really good ways to end up dead and angry. I took a few minutes to do a quick run-around of the city streets at the very start of the game; killing enemies was pretty effortless and they frequently dropped vials so my stock built back up quickly.

so it seemed to me like it might be a blessing in disguise for a newer player, in a sense.

I did a lot of jumping around back and forth between areas around then, which makes it trickier to tell, but from what I remember you were pretty close.

a highlight of last night

*Jet proceeds to slide down a ladder*

Jet: "Lets see what happens when I go down this way"

*proceeds to take an enemy axe to the face*

Blood Borne in a nutshell.

Another highlight:

Me: "Ok, I remember that that guy is hiding right there and I need to..."

Enemy: BURSTS OUT AND IMMEDIATELY TAKES OFF HALF MY HEALTH.

Part 3 streaming now!

We fightin' a boss tonight, son!

Posted Tuesday by Jet Presto

Ok! I defeated Cleric Beast. The first time I ran into it, it completely destroyed me. So I assumed it would do so again. Beat it on my second try.

Did pretty ok my first attempt against Father G tonight, but my attempts only got worse. We'll try again tomorrow.

I feel like this is starting to click. Just need to get a little better at parrying with Father G.

I sort of agree in regards to the Hunter's Dream, but it does serve a purpose narratively, and I admittedly quite liked retreating their for a respite.

If you can, try to keep tombstones between you and Gascoigne. A long weapon like the transformed Hunter's Axe or Threaded Cane can still do damage across them. Also, do you by any chance have the Tiny Music Box?

I feel like I just need to get more consistent at parrying. My first try last night, I did pretty well. Parried him like, six times and he transformed with less than a quarter of health. Later attempts, I just couldn't get the timing right (or would get stuck on tombstones).

I do have the tiny music box.

Posted Wednesday by Jet Presto

Okay. I don’t know if you were following that story thread closely, but keep the music box in mind.

Yeah. The little girl who wants me to find her mother. I'm assuming that's her father. I've used it a few times. Does it do anything other than halt him for a moment?

Posted Wednesday by Jet Presto

No, but it’s invaluable during his beast phase. It’ll give you a window to throw some Molotov cocktails his way, and/or backstab him. Pretty sure it’ll only work twice before he’s immune, though.

Posted Wednesday by Orion Nebula

Dang. Would have been good to know my first attempt last night. Twice would have allowed me to succeed, really.

Didn't get to play tonight. Hopefully soon. I feel victory in my bones.
