We're gonna need a bigger boat.

I had forgotten just how great this anime is. The characters are, for the most part, well written and likeable and their struggles are more internal than external. The majority of the main arcs are well paced, have great villains, and give each of the core characters moments to shine. That being said I do have two issues with the show. Those being the Demon World Tournament arc and Kuwabara's fighting skills. The DWT arc only covers 18 episodes which makes it the shortest arc in the anime, second shortest being the Spirit Detective arc at 20 episodes, and the story suffers greatly for it. The whole thing felt rushed and could have benefited from having more episodes focus on the developing relationships between Yusuke and Raizen as well as Mokuro and Hiei. Then there's the tournament itself which is wrapped up in only 7 episodes. I feel like more time should have been given to each of the three big fights so as not to make some of the character development not feel rushed, especially for the Hiei vs Mokuro fight as I feel his character arc wrapped up too quickly. Also, that golden energy Yusuke unleashes in his fight with Yomi is never given a proper explanation.

As for Kuwabara as a fighter. He lost significantly more fights in the show than he won and even some of his wins were determined by his endurance rather than his skill as a fighter. His two best victories were against Byakko in season one and his fight against Elder Toguro in TDT saga. It's clear during TDT saga that he was easily the weakest of the group and he rarely, if ever, thought strategically. I like Kuwabara as a character and I think he's a good friend and brother, but he has very few fighting skills other than his spirit sword (which has been shown to be able to reconfigure into other objects during the fight with elder Toguro and I feel like that could have been useful if developed) yet he somehow manages to win a few fights.

Also, why is it Yusuke rarely used his shotgun? He only used it a handful of times and I understand that it's not as strong as the spirit gun, but there were times when it would have been useful if only as a means to land a hit on his opponent.

Yu Yu Hakusho is the best anime ever. The writing is superb, and the depth of the show is amazing as it's comical, philosophical, and heartbreaking at times, and the character development always progresses.

The music just adds to the awesomeness, always reflecting the mood, and making you feel whatever emotion it wants you to feel. But the main thing for me with Yu Yu, is that despite some of the shonen cliches, it always had its own unique feel from the beginning of the anime: killing the protagonist from the start was such an interesting way of starting the anime, and as the story unfolded it went from a comedic show to a shonen one, but it still managed to keep it's sense of humor.

Idk about you, but I also really admired Yusuke who's such a wonderful main character. Even from the start of the show he's depicted as a punk who uncharacteristically sacrificed his life, but he's had such a horrible upbringing, having to deal with no dad, and an alcoholic mother, corrupt teachers trying to bring him down, and then having to fight dangerous demons upon being revived. At heart, he's a kind young man trying to survive in oppressive conditions.

YYH is an amazing show that deserves more attention than what it gets. Back in high school, it was so popular, and it had its own trading card game, their action figures were sold in stores, and Yu Yu Hakusho characters graced magazine covers, but it's gotten retty obscure since then and it's such a shame.

While I don't agree it's the best anime, imo FMAB gets that title, I do agree with your other points. And let's not forget how the secondary characters all get development and well done backstories. Hiei, Kurama, Genkai, Kuwabara, the younger Toguro, the three demon kings, and so many more!

I wish I could agree, but the series has been on hiatus so many times over the years

I watched that show on Adult Swim for a while but dropped off when they were fighting in that castle-like place (after Yusuke trained with the old woman). Then I picked it up again for a bit during the demon tournament.

Any place you know where I could stream the show?
