I mean I have a PC and an XBOX ONE X and I care more about gamerscore than playstation trophies. Also, multiplatform games look better on the X anyway. The Xbox has backwards compatibility and the PS4 doesn't except with a paid subscription. Which is kind of a joke because I own a bunch of digital ps3 and 360 games, but only one of these machines will let me play their predacessor's games that I bought and paid for.

I have no interest in Uncharted 4, I own God of War and Horizon and they're alright, Persona 5 is legitmately good so I can't say shit but it's not on it's own good enough to own a ps4 because it's on ps3 as well and I have one of those, Gran Turismo Sport can't hold a candle to what Turn 10 has done with the Forza series this generation. The only other exclusive I really wouldn't mind re-playing is The Last of Us, and I have that on ps3 as well. And shit, even though that game is last gen on ps3, it still looks amazing. I own the PS4 version and I'd play it there obviously, but it's sad that the three games I want to play on ps4 are Persona 5, The Last Of Us, and COD Advanced Warfare, all of which I own on ps3 too.

I'm literally sitting here while the machine goes down in value banging my head against a wall hoping that TLOU2 comes out soon.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Days Gone looks like a flop. I'm considering Spiderman.

Why do you think I never bought either console? Switch Gang Gang.

I mean I play lots of things on Xbox One and they look great. I even have a 4K Monitor for it. In addition to a number of current gen games, it'll also let me play Mass Effect Trilogy, Oblivion, Knights of the Old Republic, Morrowind, Halo 3, Halo Reach, Forza Horizon, every gears of war game, Perfect Dark. There's just little incentive to play anything on the PS4 for me when the Xbox has better-looking third party games, more games overall, and Sony won't even let me play my ps1 classics or ps3 games that I paid for.

I have a switch, rarely play that, but at least it has interesting games. I have Odyssey, BOTW, Pokemon Lets GO Eevee, and Smash Ultimate. What more could I need for it, right? Until the new pokemon games come out.

Actually the only reason I even bought the PS4 last year was to game with my brother. I bought a year subscription to PSN on June 15th last year so I could game with him online. The fucking madlad jumps off the bridge on June 16th. What an asshole. I can't even sell the PS4, it has too much sentimental value. But it sure is fucking useless to me.

Do you have your ps3? If so I don't see what the problem is. Put away the ps4 until TLOU2 comes out

Posted April 27th by S.o.h.

Yeah there is no problem really, I was just looking to see if anyone has any PS4 game recommendations that can change my mind. The PS3 is great. Do you still play it online? I'd play some Black Ops II some time.

I would love to but I don't have a working controller for it. All the ones that are sold aren't official sony ones.

I do use my vita. Do you have hell divers? We can coop on that some time.

I get your frustration I felt the ps4 has been pretty dam lack luster. I don't think the last of us 2 on it will be worth it ad I can see it being a launch title for the ps5.

I did enjoy god of war. Spider man is okay I recommend getting it on sale. I heard great things about horizon dawn.

Yeah its hell trying to find a genuine used ps3 controller or a new Sony brand controller online when it comes to ebay or amazon. There are so many fakes. But on Craigslist you can probably find someone who is selling say, a ps3 with 2-3 controllers. These are almost always real genuine oem sony controllers. Then you just keep a controller or two and resell the ps3 for the same price.

I've never played the vita online, and I don't have that game legitimately. I probably do have it on my modded vita (I have 2, a legit one with like 8-9 games and a hacked one with over 10 000 games). Unfortunately though, the hacked one can't be played online.

I believe it is cross play with the ps4 and ps3. Its a fun game tje only down side to it is that the fps drops in later levels.

Posted April 27th by S.o.h.

If it can be played on PS3 and it's not too pricey I might look into it. But yeah man you're far more likely to find a real ps3 controller in your local area than by going online to big chains.

I haven’t played any games post-2010 except for some Nintendo games like Odyssey and Splatoon and a few minutes of Red Dead 2 at a friend’s house. Modern gaming is so boring to me. It sounds pretentious but I’d rather read a book.

Posted April 27th by MarvaIo

Yeah it really does seem that way. For me I'd say 2013 was the last truly epic year for new video games. At least games for non-nintendo consoles. 2017-2018 were pretty great for Nintendo.

I heard Spiderman was absolutely amazing! Perhaps that will redeem some value.

Posted April 27th by mariomguy

I played some Horizon Zero Dawn and it was pretty good. But honestly, I play my X1 and Switch more than i play my PS4.

Posted April 28th by Q

I only own a Switch (and my pc) these days so from my outside perspective it seems weird that you guys prefer Xbox One over PS4 as it always feels like the PS4 has the better exclusives?

Posted April 28th by Moonray

Horizon and God of War just don't feel like anything I haven't played before. I never liked Uncharted to begin with. I used to be a Gran Turismo fanboy, but Forza has totally eclipsed it this generation. PS4 does have Last of Us and Persona 5, it's true, but so does PS3. PS4 just doesn't have a single niche that validates it's existence to me.

Xbox One has 360 and original Xbox games on it, which makes it's exclusive library gargantuan. PS4 literally only plays a small collection of modern exclusives, and multiplatform games that look better on Xbox One X.

Like, I'd rather have access to dozens of backwards compatible games than have 1 or 2 better modern exclusives.

Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Fifa, NHL, Madden, NBA, Tom Clancy, Battlefield, Mass Effect Andromeda, all 3rd party games, they all look better on xbox one x. Elder Scrolls Online looks absolutely stunning in 4K. You'd have to really like Uncharted, God of War, Horizon, Spiderman and Gran Turismo to get anything out of owning a PS4 if you already have an xbox one x.

The PS4 does have more exclusives than the Xbox One. Infact you could argue that the PlayStation family of home consoles has always had more exclusives going all the way back to the PS1. The PS4 is a very good system but I think the reason I play Xbox more is that I have more friends on it that I used to play online games with. And I find the Xbox controller to be more comfortable to hold. I am excited to see what the PS5 will look like though.

Crash 1,2,3,CTR, Crash Bash
Gran Turismo 1,2
Final Fantasy 7,8,9 (4, Chrono trigger, and 5 and 6 if you want to count those as well)
Tomb Raider 1,2,3
Digimon World games

Super Mario 64
Mario Kart 64
Donkey Kong 64
Banjo Tooie/Kazooie
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Perfect Dark
Ocarina of Time
Majora's Mask
Super Smash Brothers
Diddy King Racing
Star Fox 64
Duke Nukem 64
Pokemon Stadium 1/2
Pokemon Snap
Mario Party 1,2,3

It's pretty close I would say, but a lot of PS1's numerical advantages are sequels of other exclusives. Is there really much difference between Gran Turismo 1 and 2? Spyro games? Crash games? N64 has more variety but obviously both are very solid systems.

I definitely left some more low key hidden gem exclusives out on the PS1 list. Persona, Medieval, castlevania. Can't say I played any of them. But every game I mentioned on N64 is an absolute classic. I've played all of those.

I feel like you missed just a few exclusives...
Just a few though...

For comparison the N64 list is much smaller.

Edited April 28th by Moonray

But most importantly you didn't include the Spyro games.

Also a bit weird you'd include a "non-game" like Pokemon Snap but then admit to omitting some PS1 classics.

Edited April 28th by Moonray

I did mention the spyro games, I just forgot them in the list part of my post. They are mentioned in the paragraph though.

PS1 has more good exclusives but N64 has more S-class exclusives. For instance, literally the highest rated game on PS1 is Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, which is a multiplatform game. Ocarina of Time has a higher ranking, and N64 also has Super Mario 64 and Perfect Dark which at the time had a 97/100 from metacritic which is on par with THPS2. And the kicker there is that the N64 also has THPS2.

Edit: In 2010 Olympics everyone kept on bragging that the USA had the most medals. But at the time the olympics ended, while it was certainly true, America had 10 gold medals and Canada had 13. America just had a lot of silver and bronze, many of which in the places Canada had gold. I don't care about the PS1 or N64's silver and bronze medals as much as I care about the golds, and the N64 is loaded with instant classics and 95+/100 games.

I didn't really like Pokemon Snap either tbh.

I mean, the Spider-man game won't change your mind, but I thought it was a heck of a lot of fun, which is personally what I want out of a game.

I dunno. I have an XBox One and PS4, and I hands down use the PS4 a lot more. Beyond the exclusives that I do enjoy and make it worth it, I substantially prefer the PS interface (which itself not even that great) to the XBox's, which should say something. I've also enjoyed getting into streaming a bit more, and it's just simpler on PS4, which is nice.

Also, y'all know you can play games AND read books, right? It's not an either/or situation.

Posted April 28th by Jet Presto

I am planning on buying and reading G.R.R.M's game of thrones books.

PS4 does have a cleaner interface. Microsoft's is ad-ridden and a lagful mess to navigate. I will give you that one. Xbox Live though is still leaps and bounds better than PSN and I prefer gamerscore to trophies any day.

I don't care about the PS1 or N64's silver and bronze medals as much as I care about the golds, and the N64 is loaded with instant classics and 95+/100 games.

I guess I just don't put that much weight into what people I don't know think about games to really care if a game is "90+" or not. Like if one of you guys on this site said to me that a game sucks or is great I would take that into consideration if researching it, but if some score site says "it's only a 70" I just don't care because I've loved plenty of games that were "just 70".

I can say with absolutely certainty that as a kid I was playing my PS1 far more than my N64. N64 definitely had some of my favourite games, but the PS1 had some of my favourite games too and it had more games I wanted to play. I would gladly replay many of them to this day VS N64 where there's only a small selection of games I really want to replay.

I never had a PS1 or an N64 until the year 2001, when I got my PS1. I exclusively played FF8 and Gran Turismo. And I got a PS2 soon after. I was 14 in 2004 when I got my N64, so my judgment of it's games came as a teenager and an adult. I can honestly say that with the exception of the final fantasy trio and Gran Turismo 1, and THPS2 there isn't a single PS1 game I have any interest in going back and playing.

Literally just this morning I played Goldeneye, Perfect dark, and SM64 and I played some Ocarina last week.

And FF7 and FF9 aren't even PS1 exclusive anymore, and I certainly wouldn't be playing those versions. That leaves three games. FF8, GT, and THPS2.

I think the games on N64 that were high end classics have stood the test of time better than those on PS1.

A N64 vs PS1 debate, man this brings me back to middle/High school. This brings back so many memories.

Both consoles were stellar for their time. Let's do a pro and con list for both consoles. Everyone feel free to add anything I missed by try to keep it factual as much as possible.

The Nintendo 64

  • Reintroduced console gamers to the Joystick and how it could be used to play 3D games.
  • It's memory could be upgraded
  • Game Carts were durable as hell
  • Game Carts could save data internally
  • Consoles and Controllers came in multiple colors
  • Stellar First party support.
  • Introduced Rumble/Vibration
  • Had great graphics
  • Very durable console as it had no moving parts to break

  • Controller was confusing to learn at first
  • Game Carts didn't hold as much memory for games
  • Didn't have as many games as the PS1
  • Game carts were more expensive than PS1's CD based games
  • Some games required a memory card
  • Couldn't play CD's like it's main competitors
  • Poor 3rd party support

    PlayStation 1

  • Popularized CD based media for games
  • CD's could hold a ton of data for the time (600MB per disc)
  • Had a large library of games
  • Stellar 3rd party support
  • Simple Controller that was easy to learn and use
  • Introduce Dual Analog sticks
  • Introduced controllers with vibration built in
  • Had a smaller redesign model released at the end of it's life

  • CD based games often had long load times
  • CD based games were not as durable as cartridge based games
  • Had very little first party game at first
  • Introductory controller had no analog sticks or rumble
  • Required memory cards to save data for all games
  • CD Laser would often wear out or have problems reading discs (Especially prevalent in early models)
  • 3D Graphics were often ugly and pixelated

I encourage other people to make their own lists and include anything I forgot. You have to keep in mind that during the PS1 was SONY's first game console and no one had associated them with video games prior. They had to jump into a market that was dominated by Nintendo and Sega. Most companies that attempted to release their own console failed to succeed against them so the fact that SONY came in and dominated at their first console is a testament to the games it had.

The 2 systems were almost as opposite as could be. Nintendo focused on Kid friendly games, and relied on its vast 1st party library. The PS1 focused on Teens and Adults and relied on 3rd party support. Nintendo game carts were expensive and had very little storage for games and the PS1 used cheap CD's that offered a ton of space for games.

I agree that probably more Nintendo games stand the test of time the most, but I think that's due to Nintendo's focus on gameplay and colorful graphics.

I'm not sure I think I see a difference between XBox Live and PS Plus at this point. They've seemed pretty identical to me. Except I know where to find the free PS Plus games in the store. I never ever remember where the Games with Gold are. God, I really, really hate the Microsoft interface and store layout.

I dunno. I also take the fun approach of not seeing one as valuable and one as useless. I hands down prefer the PS4, but I still enjoy my XBox One.

Posted April 29th by Jet Presto

For the XBOX Live games with Gold you just open the Store and scroll down to the Games with Gold option. it used to be really confusing but MS has since made it easier.

    Posted April 29th by Q

Microsoft should have an optional kid-friendly setting for it's interface where all the ads are hidden and it's just about the games you already own, movies you already own, etc. I get that they're a business but it's truly ridiculous like you say. Still, I can't say I actually find navigating their console very difficult. It takes a little longer to memorize, sure, but I can get to whatever I want. And having ads is a far less grievous crime than not having PS3, PS2, PS1 classics that I already paid for, and expecting me to subscribe to an expensive streaming service instead. Maybe Sony could at least stream me the games I already paid for for free. I wouldn't have a problem with it then.
