tame impala was the first thing that i was going to recommend.
animal collective, goat, and the mars volta are not close to being pink floyd, but they both do share some similar elements such as "strange" or "atmospheric" movements, instrumental solos, and non-typical song structures. animal collective and goat are more vocal-focused, and feel almost tribal. the mars volta is more hard rock. i can recommend specific songs if you'd like.
i don't know if there's going to be anything that's exactly what you're looking for. i'll keep digging to see if i find any other near-matches.

Tame Impala's lyrics are not quite as..."deep" as the Floyd ("The Less I Know the Better" comes to mind). The sound is good, but closer to The Beatles than Pink Floyd.
Yes, recommend me some songs.

Life is the best song in the animals album by Pink Floyd imo. Great guitar solos, great synths. Was the last song that’s I heard on the radio four years ago before going stone deaf.

I've seen Porcupine Tree cited as PF-esque as well.

Well, Porcupine Tree's "Anesthetize" sounded close in the opening! But it got a bit heavy after a while, more like Tool.
I read a comment that the lyrics aren't on the level of Pink Floyd OR Yes, and Yes is another band I've had reccomended. I've listened to Yes...but I don't know if it's enough like the Floyd. Although, the front man for Yes did a cover of "Breathe" from The Dark Side of the Moon...
The length of Porcupine Tree's song is right, but I'm not sure about the lyrics or that Tool-esque heaviness in there. Hmmm....

I know Pink Floyd is clumped in as "progressive rock", but there IS a distinct sound to them.
I've seen other prog bands like Genesis and Rush that compare in people's minds. I guess I'll just have to listen to each one and see...
Any specific songs you guys can share from recommended bands in your minds compared to Pink Floyd?

=i will say that the one thing pink floyd has going for them is that their lyrics are fucking wonderful, so you're probably not going to find much on that level

Yeah, Tame Impala's "The Less I Know The Better" has a great sound, but the lyrics are simplistic in comparison to:
Long you live, high you fly
The smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
All you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be
Yeah, Pink Floyd dominates with lyrics. BUT I know other bands also have amazing lyrics! I'm just looking for a close combination.

Personally, I don't see Rush (or Yes, for that matter) as being all that similar to Pink Floyd. They're both prog, but Rush has its own distinct style much like Floyd does. Genesis is probably closer (particularly the Peter Gabriel era), though I'm not as familiar with their catalogue.
It's hard to come up with a band that's both good and effectively the same as another band--most artists (at least within this genre) are popular because their sound is unique. Kansas has some good lyrics, but it's often closer to mainstream rock than prog. King Crimson is great, but they might get a little too hard for your liking. I'm partial to the Moody Blues and think they aim for a similarly atmospheric style, but they have a lot more of an orchestral feel than Floyd does.

Did you know that Mortal kombat’s blood code is abacabb on the Sega GENESIS is a tribute to the rock band’s most famous song and album. The song is endless but the synths are like psytrance music which is what makes it so special and makes it stand out from any other song.
Can somebody groove to the solo yyz by rush? I miss being able to listen to music so somebody needs to act this out for me. Rush is known for their drummer Neil Pearl who is arguably the best drummer in the world, and their guitarist is very good too; but the vocals are VERY BITCHY.

Yeah, they blended orchestral instruments with the traditional rock ones. Days of Future Passed is one of my all-time favorite albums and is the first of what Moody Blues fans refer to as the "Classic Seven" albums, and it's also probably the most Floyd-like? Their most popular song is "Nights In White Satin," but much like Floyd, their songs are better appreciated within the context of the full album.
It might be close to what you're looking for--like I said, it's not an exact match, but they have some similar characteristics/style to Floyd.
