Never watched it but is this another case of a show doing a perfect ending and then trying to carry on anyway?

Why are seventh seasons always the worst?

Except the Simpsons, they had a good seventh season.

I think so? I'm not exactly sure what happened in the production process. I believe I heard from a friend that the show was kinda surprise-canceled during season 6 and the writers were forced to wrap it up (and they sent the show off well, if you're asking me).

Then Netflix was like, "We will give you the chance to make the final season you truly deserve!" So season 7 got made.

I would also like to state for the record that sober Ceta is far less resolute in the opinions presented in the OP.

I have no idea if this is true or not. Parks and Recreation is the only show I've ever watched in my entire life.

Stargate SG1 had a pretty decent seventh season. Not it's greatest but also not it's worst.

Game of Thrones season 7 was pretty good. I think most liked it better than season 6 and definitely more than season 5 which is viewed by most as the worst season so far.

I really liked Season 7, actually. It's not great, but I enjoyed what they did. It was better than the extra year of Scrubs after it reached its conclusion in season 8. But I also realize that I love Parks & Rec so much that they have to try really hard to get me to not like it. Only thing I have a hard time re-watching are the Louis CK episodes. But I even quite enjoyed the first season when it had no idea what it wanted to be quite yet.

If season 7 of supernatural is the season where levianths were introduced than it was pretty decent from what I remember.

Star Trek TNG had a really good 7th season. As for season 7 of Supernatural, yeah it was pretty decent. Much better than some of the other later seasons.

Sorry, but Leslie making Ron the superintendent of Pawnee National Parks was far better than anything in the season 6 finale. When you add everything else in the actual series finale at the end of season 7, it amounts to something way better than if the series just ended at 6.

I think after 6 years a lot of people grow tired of working on the same project. Routines either settle in for the long haul, or the show concludes. You can't have a show that endlessly reinvents itself for 7 years.

  • I Love Lucy - Ended 6 seasons
  • The Golden Girls - Ended 7 seasons
  • Spongebob Squarepants - Most fans say the show went downhill after 3 seasons and Stephen Hillenburg's departure
  • The Simpsons - After 8 seasons
  • Avatar: The Last Airbender - 3 seasons
  • The Good Place - Still ongoing, but two half-seasons in and it's hard to imagine this show lasting for more than 2 or 3 more.
  • My Little Pony FiM/G5 - 8 seasons. Peaked in 2nd. season, evolved up to the 5th, but around 8 it seems to reign in fewer and fewer surprises. While S2 was constantly surprising, now it happens rarely but with far more striking episodes.
  • Breaking Bad - 5 seasons
  • Modern Family - 10 seasons, and growing stale.

Hard disagree... Season 7 finale was indulgent, sentimental pandering. The Li'l Sebastian hologram was a million times better.

The last lines of each finale are comparable. Season 6:
    Ben: You ready?
Leslie: Not at all. But that's never stopped us before.

It makes sense in the context of the show, like, doesn't seem out of place given what's going on. It doesn't seem horribly forced. And I appreciate how it frames Leslie in the position she's always been in: odds against her, but boldly optimistic.

    Season 7:
    Ben: You ready, babe?
    Leslie. Yes. I'm ready.

This makes absolutely no goddamn sense in the context of the show. They are smiling for a picture... And Ben feels what is evidently an inexplicable need... to look at his wife with concern and say, voice tinged with confusion, "You ready, babe?"

And then Leslie hits us with that corny-ass bullshit. It was so weird! Ben's line was weird and so was Leslie's. It wasn't like a, "Yup! Ready for the picture!" It was like a, "Yes, I have attained self-realization."

I'm not bringing these observations back around to any broader point, I'm just talking.
