Going for a third try on Knights of the Old Republic
Posted: Posted January 9th by -Riku-

So my first file I was doing fine on until I got to the Star Forge. I only chose to have myself and Bastila go to face Malak (as two Sith) because I thought we would be enough. We were not. We got to the second section of the Forge and kept getting mowed down by his flunkies. No matter how much I heal us, no matter what boosters I use, we kept dying.

So then I went and started a second file, this time as a Jedi rather than a Dark Jedi. Things were going pretty well. I managed to get both Juhani and HK-47 this time around. I had been doing lots of quests and managed to explore routes I had not done so previously. For example, I had started to make peace with the Sand People and chose to put Zaalbar's dad in charge of the wookies rather than the brother. However, at one point HK-47 and Jolee simply vanished. They weren't on the ship and they weren't on the roster. When I tried to select where them as followers, I saw a message at the bottom of the screen that said, "Help me, I'm broken. I'm so very, very broken." I tried to select them anyway and the game crashed on me. I even went back to Tatooine and tried to repurchase him (for some reason the game acted like I never went there before getting the third map, but I did), but that ultimately achieved nothing. I continued to playout the game as best I could until I reached the ritual on the lost planet with the Rakata. The one guy said that someone was coming and the game just gave me back control of my character with no way of entering the temple.

So...yeah. I have yet to actually BEAT the game and now I'm trying for a third time. I didn't bother with any of the side-quests on Taris since you spend more time there than on any other planet in this game. I've checked and you spend roughly 3-5 hours there before you can actually LEAVE. While I'm sure you spend a lot of time on Dantooine, I know it can't be NEARLY as much as you do on Taris. Right now I'm a scout and I plan on becoming a Sentinel

He has to give you that speech outside the temple though

it's not a speech that 'has' to happen for the game to continue though. you can skip it. it's called save buffering 'Save buffering is a method of cancelling triggers, including cutscenes, conversations and fights. 'When Quick Saving, you will notice there's a short fade-in from black after the game finishes saving. Triggers will not take effect during this fade in. By moving forward while Quick Saving, you can enter a trigger and delay it using the fade-in. You can then interrupt the trigger to cancel its effects'

It's been ages but I seem to recall the Malak boss fight at the end of the game was really tough.

Speaking of tough boss fights in Star Wars games, the fight with Bobba Fett in Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire gave me such a hard time.

Yeah, the first level being Battle of Hoth always made me think that this game and Rogue Squadron were made by the same developers. You can actually get this game for PC from GoG.com for $6.
