Driving to or moving for a job
Posted: Posted June 25th, 2018 by Cyrus

What's the longest you've driven to work and was it worth moving closer? (If you moved at all.) I currently have a job offer that is an hour and fifteen mins from my current residence. The pay seems quite fair, but I'll have to consider gas expense and then if I do move, moving and new living expenses. The move would be hard because while not all that far away, I'd still be giving up friends and family that are also good social and loving connections. The move I will have no one. I know after sometime you adapt and meet new people but it's still a scary thought of truly being alone.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are.

Compromise for a halfway point?

For a few months I worked a job that took me an hour and a half to get to.

Was the drive hard in the winter months?

It was during the summer so it wasnít bad. But Iíve driving about an hour before during the winter and other than slowing down for snowmit wasnít bad.

My job is 45 minutes away from me. Because I'm a closer at a bar, because I want to put less miles on the vehicle and because I just don't feel like driving in the dark after 8 to 12 hours at work (we're currently extremely understaffed), I already stay at a co-worker's place in the town over the weekend.

My girlfriend wants to spend significantly more time with me and she wants to get out of her little apartment. So, knowing what I want, she's looking at leasing a house where my job is, so we can move in together. It seems like the obvious better option for everyone involved.

Driving back and forth through atlanta traffic for 40-60 minutes at my last good job was a pain. Moving to the exit right where the traffic ended (and making my commute 20 minutes) was well worth it.

Unless you're currently totally financially independent and have money for whatever you're trying to do, getting the job is going to be worth it. If you're okay where you are and getting the job messes up your social life, it probably isn't worth it.

'Compromise for a halfway point?"

yeah, ~40 minutes to work, ~40 minutes to your friends isn't so bad. just put on a podcast

All of the jobs I ever had (and current job) were 5 to 10 minutes away from where I live. I never had a full time job before, but I did do two jobs at once. Never again. But, not complaining about the distance. School is farther away, but for like 30 minutes or so. Edit: 15 minutes when I take the highway. Depending on morning traffic.
