It would be really helpful to have drafting tools for starting threads. The general idea is that you could type out an OP and then save it for later revision and posting somewhere in your User CP. Useful mechanics within this idea would include post previewing (letting the user see what the final product will look like before posting) and restore points (allowing for multiple versions of the post to be easily compared and selected from).

Right now, if I want to draft something like a respect thread or other post type that requires a longer development, I have to lay everything out and save it with a text editor or my private sub on Reddit. Which isn't the worst, but it would be cool if I could do what I need to here, since this is where it's going to end up anyway and that would make things simpler and easier.

This would also generally be beneficial for the article/blogpost selling point. It's pretty common to have drafting features on other platforms. If GT is going to be any kind of competitive on that front, it seems like an obvious addition.

Post previewing is a must have regardless of any future plans.

We've had post previewing for a while. Press the weird X-shaped icon next to the smiley face icon (I should really change these).

Also yeah good other suggestions, will implement.

Ok you really need to make it more obvious then...

Yeah it looks like a mechanical bug.

No offense, but that's really dinky. I was thinking something like it pops open another tab where it actually shows what the finished product will look like when posted, not just a formatting preview.

Also, the formatting preview doesn't work (for me, at least).

the existing message preview (which has been around, like, forever, so I'm surprised it's a surprise) does have some shortcomings. From memory:

  • apostrophes display a backslash in the preview that isn't in the actual post (seen in null's picture)

  • certain symbols will post just fine, but end the message preview prematurely. Preview a message that has a # or a & in the middle and watch as the preview ends just before the symbol.

  • there's a preview length limit that's less than a post actually permits. I never tried to figure out what the limit is (it's fairly big), but I used to hit it all the time during lengthy chat/discussion posts in the anime forum. If you exceed the mystery limit, your post preview will just display a "414 Request-URI Too Large" error - but it'll still post just fine if you didn't exceed the actual character limit.
