There was no reason for it. all it does is make the site feel like it's not even GT an y more but mutating in to something else entialry.

I know from our previous discussions that you view change as an inherently bad thing, and I very much disagree with that opinion.

One day the internet did not exist, many days later the internet did exist allowing people from all over the world to communicate and form communities such as GameTalk. In order for that to happen, change had to happen. In this case change is good is not?

I'm not suggesting change is always good, but there is definitely a balance of good and bad change.

To add to this - we're talking about making changes to a site that was last running in 2008. What do you know of on the internet that hasn't changed in 10 years and retained its user base? Mike would have certainly made changes to his site within 10 years as well, just as he did since it started in the 90's. Maybe not the same as Xhin's changes. We'll never know what it would have progressed to. But it would not have remained the same.

Lets take a look at this situation- How many people are actually upset by this name change? From what I can tell, it's only a couple of user's who generally complain the most.

Things have to evolve to stay relevant, if not then they become extinct.

I kinda meant this as more of a general discussion than specifically about the site, that's why I made a separate post from the other one.

While their history does not discount their opinion, it certainly does provide some context to it.

Things have to evolve to stay relevant, if not then they become extinct.

This implies that this site is still or was ever relevant. Aside from a handful of active users all of whom are from the original site no one actively posts or anything. The entire appeal of GT to me was the community. Take that aspect away and all you have is a gradual decline into nothingness that's only being slowed by nostalgia.

That being said I kind of like the changes but I would prefer pointless stayed as pointless.

It was literally just tnu. I just suggested making a board for more pointless "discussion" as well.

I think what everyone's trying to say is, even though Moonray ruined the Pointless forum, and possibly the site as we know it, we can all come together and build something new.

Besides, we can all take solace in the fact that Moonray ruining things is something that will never, ever change.

But I didn't even do anything...

That's what you want us to think. We're all familiar with your games by now!

SOrry I've been preoccupied with some other stuff. I"ll type up a fuller response later.

But Yeah Moonray we should call you Adam. I just don't see anything to gain form this change and it's just more of GT moving away from its roots and mutating in to something that may eventually be unrecognizable. I have no reason to have anything other than contempt for this change.

I think people don't just like the old name, they like the old naming conventions. We had forums called "Drunjk," "Boxcube," and "Sandbox." It wasn't the most formal thing ever, but it would make people go "what is this?," open the forum, and then figure it out once they got in. "GTX0 Lounge" is very proper for a forum that used to be called "Pointless."

How about "The Lounge" instead of "GTX0 Lounge?"

This is taking this issue too far, but when some companies rebrand, they generally do it in one of two ways: either by making a facelift to the current brand, or by going in a completely new direction. A lot of people don't like new directions because it gets rid of associations with the company. In the case of Comcast rebranding as Xfinity demolishing was actually a pretty smart move. But a lot of people hated JCPenney's rebranding because it the complete swerve did not bode over well for old customers and the change did nothing to attract new ones.

Voting "pointless lounge" here. Halfsies.
