If I could bug some of you that would be great.

What are some "essential" items that one needs for the system. Accessory and game wise?

The games I will be picking up for sure include Resident evil revelations 1+2, Bayonetta 1+2, and Dark souls.

I would like to pick up one major Nintendo title. So far it seems like a toss up between. Odyseey and the Legend of Zelda. Which one is the must have?

Looking back now on your experience with the switch is $300 a reasonable price? or should one wait for a price drop? (hahaha)

Got it for my birthday last year but haven't had time to play it because of school. I haven't played either Zelda or Odyssey firsthsnd but I've played the latter co-op with a friend and even that was a blast. Being a Mario fan I'll definitely be picking it up as soon as this semester's finished.

I might also recommend Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2 if you'received looking for something multiplayer.

As for accessories, a Pro Controller and a carrying case are your top priorities.

Wouldn't say there's anything essential, but if you're planning on being mobile frequently, then a case would be ideal.

As for the games, I'd personally take Odyssey over BotW. Odyssey is well-designed from top to bottom, whereas BotW (for me) aimed high but fell relatively short. There are still plenty of open world (and Zelda) games better than it.

You seem to mention the Switch in every second thread here, so might as well just bite the bullet already. I doubt you'll be seeing a significant price drop any time soon (if at all ever, just better bundles).

Carry case is the only additional thing I've bought for mine so far (aside from additional joycons for local multiplayer).

I personally think the price is a fair one for what you're getting.

Mario Odyssey is probably the must have game for the Switch right now. It's by far the best 3D Mario game they've ever made and potentially the best Mario game (though I think I still prefer Super Mario World).

But between the exclusives and limited 3rd party games that have trickled in there is a decent selection of games to pick from.

I certainly feel in a year's time I won't regret getting a Switch like how I regret buying an Xbox One (which I've since sold).

Ahh I still think I prefer SM64 and Galaxy over it, but Odyssey is definitely a heavy-hitter.

I need to look at getting rid of my Xbox One as well. Haven't touched it since sometime in 2015; it's just a waste of space at this point because I know I'll never play it again.

I never played Galaxy but I do really enjoy SM64... And I do think both games do things better than the other, but when it comes down to it I feel I enjoy Odyssey more than 64 (especially if I try to ignore the nostalgia aspect).

I will say I have a nostalgic soft-spot for real "hub worlds" and it's a bit of a shame that Odyssey decided to just not have one at all. I also think the "world interactions" were more interesting in SM64, like flooding Wriggler's home and then beating him up for being upset about it (are we sure this was a game suitable for children?).

And really I think there were more actual platforming challenges in SM64 whereas Odyssey feels more like "puzzles" to use the hat with.

At the end of the day though Odyssey is up there with the best.

Yea I got a few games early on (Halo, Sunset Overdrive, Arkham Knight because the PC version was so badly ported) but then after that I've not really gotten anything on it or played it... Pretty much every exclusive they get now is also available on Windows 10 so I asked myself "Why do I still have this thing?"

I am somewhat banking on them making the next Halo be an Xbox & Windows release like everything else... But at the end of the day it's not worth having the console just to play a Halo game every few years.

At least with the Switch I know there will be games I'll want because I like a lot of the Nintendo exclusives and 3rd party support is likely to grow given the success of the device (and the fact that it's the most "normal" console they've released in a long time).

Lol orion my friend told me the same thing yesterday. I've been mentioning the switch to her since last semester and she told me to be selfish and just pick it up lol.

If it's a toss up between mk8 and splatoon which one is the better choice? I'll get both eventually but I would prefer something to play with friends for now

you can find those games on last gen consoles i wouldnt waste the moeny if you just want to play those games

Edited February 14th by Brandy

That would require me to purchase a last gen console, an addition to an outdated version of the game that does not include dlc and is not portable. Why exactly would I want to do that?

ok, then buy a used switch or wait for price drop thats what i would do.

I dont buy things used. And knowing nintendo there will be no price drop. As evident with the Wii U.

Ill pick it up sooner rather than later.

I'd probably say Mario Kart -- much, MUCH more content, and I feel like I'm more involved in MK than in Splatoon.

-if you're a zelda fan and like the open world adventure aspect of it all, botw will last you longer if you want to beat all the shrines and beat all the divine easts, and go to all the locations. Can rack you +100 hrs easily.uOdyssey is a better pick up and play option, and beating the game on the first run will take you 20-25 hours. Post game could take you +50 hours if you're trying to collect all the stars.

I'd honestly get both eventually. Maybe I'd base the decision on game length first(how much you want to invest in the game)

bonus:if you like RPG games, I recommend checking out xenoblade chronicles 2. i never got into X(even though I played it for the first 4 hours), but 2 is just much better at explaining the combat.. and between odyssey, botw, and this game, has a much better story.

MK8 deluxe is cool. Already owned the wii u version, but only played switch version for less than 20 hours. if you never played mk8, its great. if you have friends/family to play with, it could last you a bit, but otherwise if you don't play online much or with friends, it will get boring. Doesn't help that all but one character is unlocked from the beginning. The tracks, battlemode are great though. If you skipped mk8 in wii u, I recommend picking it up eventually.

-best accessories: If you have any plan of taking the switch with you, get a carrying case. Also get a pro controller too, because some games are a lot more comfortable with them(like botw)

it's a personal preference. When it comes to consoles I prefer new vs used unless it's a console for a child or something.

One of the rare times I will be on the same side as SOH. I'm definitely not "boujee" but when it comes to electronics I like to get mine new. I only buy a new system once every five years or so these days so it's not that bad for me.

I need to look at getting rid of my Xbox One as well. Haven't touched it since sometime in 2015; it's just a waste of space at this point because I know I'll never play it again.

That's sad to hear. I don't get to play a lot currently due to school, but I still really like the Xbox One and keep up with what's going on with it. I am envious of the quality single-player games on PS4 like TLoU though.

I am somewhat banking on them making the next Halo be an Xbox & Windows release like everything else... But at the end of the day it's not worth having the console just to play a Halo game every few years.

I think it's very likely. Microsoft has indicated that all future first-party titles will be "play anywhere" titles and already included big titles like Gears 4 and Forza 7. Though it's not 100% confirmed.

Yea. I am just mentally preparing myself for it not coming to PC because companies do dumb stuff all the time :P

True. Though Microsoft seems to have been making good decisions lately. Like all first-party titles being available on their game pass on their day of release.

whether I get a Switch or PS4 will likely depend on what Capcom releases for the former.

I subscribed to game pass last month and have been enjoying quite a few games from it.

Totally off topic here but do the xbox users take advantage of Bing rewards here? I do and I've saved over a hundred just using it for the last 8 months or so.

I do occasionally but I always fail to do it consistently. But yes, you can get a lot with the rewards if you are diligent about your binging.

No...... I never even think about it really.

Actually thanks for the reminder @Fox Forever. I got back on track today and realized I can at least get 3 months added onto my gold subscription with my current points, which should give me enough time to build up enough points for a full 12-month subscription that I won't have to spend money on (which is tight at the moment).

Posted February 16th by Vandy
Vandy

Yeah if you're tight for money it's pretty good. Last month they gave out tons of points and I could've bought a year subscription but I saved it instead and am getting quite a few $5 cards since they are a hot deal right now. It may take a while in terms of days or months but it's only 5 or so minutes a day.

I only brought it up because they recently had a great deal going on for the games pass. I play too infrequently for me to get it but it sounded like a great deal.

how does it work, you just do your searches on Bing while logged into your xbox live account?

Posted February 16th by Q
Q

Basically. Go to bing.com, then sign into your microsoft account and do the required number of searches through bing. You can just click the pre-made searches on the bing homepage to get most of them without having to type out individual searches. Then there are also short quizzes to do for points. They are all listed under the "earn" tab of your microsoft account.

Posted February 16th by Vandy
Vandy

You gotta be logged in to your Microsoft account (just log in on bing.com)

You can get 100 points per day via phone and 150 points per day via PC. An extra 20 points per day if you search on Microsoft Edge. They also do a "streak" thing where they give you daily tasks to get more points and the longer you streak the more points you get. Occasionally they give out even more free points via e-mail, etc. I just do this daily:

-Search random stuff by PC
-Search random stuff by Mobile (using Edge for the extra 20 points)
-Do the daily tasks

You can just type one word and can click the suggested searches that come up until you hit the point limit.

Most days at minimum you will get 300 points (270 pts + the at least 30 from daily tasks). Currently there's a $5 card for 3600 points (until mid-march) so within 12 days you can probably get $5 off a game or whatever you want via xbox. I just do these all at work while on break (like I said, 5-10 minutes) and I just cashed in recently for $25 worth of xbox vouchers. Last month everything was doubled so the points really racked up.

Posted February 16th by Fox Forever
Fox Forever

Bing.com points is great. I've been searching for a year now. I've used $30 worth of points so far and used on amazon, and have over a $100 saved up

I don't think Odyssey is as good as Galaxy tbh. Every "world" is so overly saturated with moons that it doesn't really feel as satisfying to get them. Idk maybe that's just me! BotW hooked me in way harder but it just depends on what you're looking for.

To be fair, its hard for any game to hold up to BotW. Even Nintendo is going to have a hard time beating it's own game and I wonder how the next Zelda game will compare to it.

I agree. Galaxy had tons of creativity for worlds and I think it was the more challenging game. Some moons do feel rewarding but then some you just geoundpound the ground and there they are.

Here's to hoping the switch gets GC virtual console capability so we can play Galaxy 1 and 2 again. hopefully with the 1080p treatment.

Speed what do you think about odyssey having mario as a COWBOY in the desert in chapter 3 after mario becomes a CAPTAIN on the SHIP the previous chapter (query is not amused because he doesn’t like the mario games)? Also if you haven’t already can you please add me to your friends list on the switch?

Continue on with the discussion people I don’t intend to derail it.

“botw was interesting but I really hope they don't do something similar for the next entry”

Well judging by the reception and the awards BotW has received I think it’s safe to say that future Zelda games will be more similar than different.

I’d like the next Zelda game to be open world like BotW but with actual dungeons like the previous Zelda games.

Considering the Nvidia shield has emulations of some GC games, I'm sure well get it.

Anyway SMO is one of my favorite mario games, hell easiliy top 3 and could be my favorite 3d mario game. In terms of gameplay, it's one of the best due to cappy's ability to solve puzzles by possessing objects and enemies.

Boss battles aren't that great though, and maybe the overworlds could be better, but it's really good. i also really hated the padding with the moons, particularly post game, and that the game was a bit too forgiving. A lot of the challenges for the moons are great though.

Mario Odyssey is very good. Galaxy 1 & 2 were good but lacked the magic that 64, Sunshine and now Odyssey have. I haven't picked up Zelda yet but I will. My younger brother and sisters love Splatoon 2, the only downside is no local multiplayer so they have to play one at a time.

oh lawd.. Doom on Switch just got gyro motion controls and apparently its better than Splatoon 2 because you can move both axises.

Gonna have to buy it now and see how it compares to IR motion controls on wi and wii u.

I wonder if it’s too much to ask for the Darksiders series to make thier way to the Switch. Darksiders 1 and 3 both got Wii U releases and Darksiders 3 is supposed to release later this year.
