It has been almost 6 years since the launch of both current gen consoles. There are rumors of the PS5 being announced sometime in 2020.

Is any one surprised by how fast this generation went? I have not officially purchased either a PS4 or Xbox one. And I feel that this generation of games were pretty lack luster compared to the previous generation. It has been an interesting ride. I was personally expecting a lot more but we will see what the next gen brings.

Best 5 games this generation:
Super Mario Odyssey
Zelda Breath of the Wild
Red Dead Redemption 2
God of War
Horizon Zero Dawn

Honorable mentions:
Super Smash Bros Ultimate
Forza 6/7

What I see a lack of is good splitscreen multi-player games. Games like COD want you to spend 200 bucks CAD for a full experience which is more anti-social than Black Ops II was for 60 bucks CAD. Shooters have gone into the toilet. GoldenEye for N64 has a more engaging story/missions than any modern shooter. It may look like ass but at least it's fun. Microsoft dropped the ball and haven't given us a great halo yet. Halo 5 needs splitscreen. The last of us 2 is probably going to be phenomenal.

In no order what so ever

Breath of the wild
Mgsv
Neir automata
Titan fall

I'll toss in mk8 in there for good measure.

I am extremely excited for resident evil 2 and I am sure it will make my top 5 list.

I’ve been thinking about that too. It seems like just yesterday I picked up my X1 Titanfall Edition and grabbed my PS4 a couple months later. I still have those OG systems and will probably stay with them until the next gen consoles come out.

I think that the current consoles could last a few more years before needing to be replaced with new hardware.

Nice! To be honest I dont really remember the launch of these consoles or even that of the PS3 or Xbox 360. The one I do remember vividly and think a lot about (which is funny as I never bought the system) is the Wii Launch. I remember seeing videos on G4 (wow I am old) covering the NY nintendo store at launch. Just thinking about it gets me excited for that dam device lol.

Same. there are only a select few titles that interest me. I dont think I will be particpating in the next generation at all. after I clear the ones that interest me, I will purchase an upgraded switch and get down with those sweet sweet nintendo titles.

The main problem this gen for me has been that the Xbox One is the best of the two generic systems but the ps4 has all the games. Xbox Live and Microsoft’s backwards compatibility are both amazing. Sony could have easily given us our purchased ps1 and ps3 games but they chose not to. PS4 has a few good games but it could be a much better entertainment device with only minor tweaking on Sony’s part. It’s so annoying that greed interrupts progress. Black Ops II and Halo Reach are the best “current” split screen games too which is just sad. 2010 and 2012. Both last gen.

Yeah gen 7 isn’t even dead as far as populations in multiplayer go.

^I agree. Comparing the two I much prefer the XB1 in terms of the system, but the PS4 definitely has the better exclusives. It makes buying them really weird. I usually just have the exclusives for PS4 and the XB1 for literally everything else.

I really dont think it would have been feasible for them to give us our PS3 games. It is my understanding that the architecture for the PS3 was extremely unique/ difficult to work with. I believe the ps4 has completely different set up. I can see it beable to emulate PS1 games though.

You can already play ps3 games with ps now. Certainly they could have given us our ps1 classics. I am pretty sure they just wanted more money. They should make an upper tier version of ps plus that includes ps now. I refuse to pay full price for both.

Thats a streaming service. Different than backwards compatibility. If you have bad net thats not even an option.

I strongly remember the launch of the XBOX360 and the PS3. MS pulled the same trick that SONY pulled with the PS2 and released their console a year earlier to get an advantage. And the XBOX360 has backwards compatibility (very limited at the time) with Halo 2 and a couple other popular original XBOX games that helped it to sell. The PS3 also had BC but botched their launch so hard that at the time no one cared. Hard to believe that a generation later MS would be the ones making the same mistakes. I also remember the Bluray vs HDDVD war that broke out a year later when the PS3 launched. Obviously bluray won lol.

I'll probably get the next gen consoles but I wont get them as soon as they come out like I have in the past. I find myself playing less and less console games as I don't have alot of time to sit down infront of my TV unless I am working from home. It's much easier for me to whip my switch out and play for short periods of time and then suspend my game to play later.

SONY has always had the best exclusive support. MS has Halo, Forza and Gears of War but SONY has so many more. But I've always felt that XBOX Live was a way better service than PS Online. Still do.

I totally agree that SONY could make the PS4 backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2 games very easily and that the only reason they aren't is because they can't easily monetize it. However, the PS3 was such a complicated beast to develop for it would be hard to emulate the games. Gotta remember the PS3 used 7 processors that were seperate from the GPU and had 2 different pools of RAM. This is why games ran better on the XBOX360 for the longest time until devs could figure out how the PS3 architecture.

I have a Switch and I bought the typical games like Odyssey, Zelda, Kart, Smash, Splatoon. I have no interest in buying an XB1 or PS4 except for a couple games like Red Dead and Kingdom Hearts 3. I'd say this is the most boring generation, but it's also the one I'm paying the least attention to. I'd rather read a book these days.
