Lets talk about how horribly unfit America is.

I've lost close to 125lbs over the past 2 years. Most of that without exercise, *all* of that without consciously restricting calories.

I think the main problem with the developed world's diet is our reliance on processed foods very high in refined starch and sugar -- and very low in protein, bi

Climate Change - What Can We Do?

What do all these personal cost-saving ideas have to do with stopping what's apparently an irreversibly process?

Also as usual a lot of this simply isn't practical for large segments of the population, electric cars especially. Unless they become cheap enough where the used electric car market is

Can we all agree..?

And what is Kim Jong-un's motivation for engaging in dialogue?

Well for one thing, dialogue legitimizes his regime. That's a powerful bargaining chip moving forward. But I could also see him needing a way to renew ties with China and BRIC in general. I don't think he's particularly interested i

I think the difference with Obama is that he tried to go for diplomacy first. Trump meanwhile has been extremely belligerant towards NK up until recently. With Obama his initial stance makes him seem weak; with Trump it seems like he's softened and is seeing reason. However I think this was his plan

What is National Socialism?

I wouldn't even say nation is a huge divider. Class and culture are way more important, to the point that racial strife can be totally chalked up to cultural differences with a little bit of racism thrown in. Just anecdotally I've seen:

  • Africans and African-Americans that were extremely "racis

    I feel broken

Honestly if you can come to terms with the idea of nonexistence after death then it pretty much radically changes your relationship with your life. Not saying I fully buy into it, but by accepting the possibility I gain:

  • Trying to accomplish things before you die (because you want to die with

"Judge" rules trump blocking people on Twitter Is "unconstitutional"

Also I agree with Famov. Having an article that starts a decent discussion should be enough effort for a post.

Wait, #85 you're actually against the ability for Twitter to block whoever the fuck they want? How very liberal of you, regulating private companies and putting restrictions on the last actual free market like that.

Not talking capitalism here, I'm talking more about the effects of industrialization and colonization; the fact that our lives are abstract systems built on arbitrary axioms. There's an inherent supply of confusion and purposelessness that capitalism maybe feeds on but doesn't necessarily cause.

Do you think that God is real or not?

Man I'm not even talking about aliens on other worlds, I'm talking about all the sentient life here that we don't recognize, plus all the recursive self-organizing systems that aren't even DNA-based, plus stuff that operates on way longer or shorter timescales than we can really measure.

    I think

Do you think that God is real or not?

I think probably most likely is that sentience isn't particularly rare. Self-organizing recursive systems are *everywhere* in nature. We don't see sentience in the huge number of places it exists because we don't understand it / can't communicate with it.

Do you think that God is real or not?

I also generally don't think questions around God are meaningful or useful. Better questions are things like "where is everything going", "what is consciousness", "what is death". These are tangible real questions. God concepts can maybe address them but asking for details on these concepts is a way

Which God concept are we talking about here? Judaeo-Christian concept? Abstract infinite concept? Demiurge? Hindu "all is one" concept?

Among these include that men are, to one extent or another in accordance with their opportunity, environment, and inclination; providers, protectors, fathers, and leaders of (if nothing else) their family unit.

There are very definitely biological differences between the sexes (risk-taking come

I honestly don't think the root issue has anything to do with masculinity being outmoded at all. People who are isolated latch onto things like redpill, fascism or whatever because they don't know wtf the problem is and these ideologies offer both identification of problems and solutions. Doesn't me

    .

Companies don't necessarily pay minimum wage though. A lot of it has to do with supply and demand of labor. For example where I live there's a ton of manufacturing companies that are all trying to expand. Despite offering unskilled manual labor jobs, the *minimum* wage the companies here offer is 13

    Is gamrtalk liveral? Or conservative?

I think gametalk leans pretty liberal overall. Almost everyone on both sides of the political spectrum had some kind of anarchist/libertarian bent as well.

Will self-driving cars ever become mandatory?

My question isn't whether they'll ever become able to handle the wide variety of edge cases -- if a human can learn those, so can a sophisticated neural network. Eventually.

My question is, whenever this happens, will people actually willingly give up their freedoms to manually drive? In America

    Nongendered Scouts

Unless they've drastically changed their lineup, iirc the girls I knew back in the 90s used to complain that the girl scouts didn't do all the cool outdoors stuff the boy scouts did. So this is probably a good thing -- should get the girl scouts to get their shit together.

    Death to Communism

Communism has yet to be implemented. Socialism has been implemented succesfully many times and is often quashed by either state capitalism or ironically state socialism.

Most of what you think of when you think "communism" is actually just state socialism. Actual socialism is where *the people*
