Who is pushing for Syrian intervention ?

We don’t have to limit our support to just moderate groups, but it’s important to remember that they do exist and not to let ourselves be bogged down by our own anti-islamic prejudices.

It isn't anti-Islamic "prejudice"; it's objective and observable policy trends. All evidence shows that fu

Who is pushing for Syrian intervention ?

Much different answer than there "no moderate fighters".

Semantics. There are no viable moderate groups to support. This is not conditional on every single person holding "moderate" views which is clearly an impossible and immeasurable metric.

Either way, it's clear that they can combat Ass

Who is pushing for Syrian intervention ?

Removing Assad by arming rebels and allowing them to remove him was only possible prior to Russian involvement, you mean.

He can still be killed.

If we had armed rebels and saw the ouster of Assad, we'd be looking at another Libya with multiple competing transitional governments claiming leg

Who is pushing for Syrian intervention ?

I agree that the label "moderate" arose out of political branding, but to say that they don't exist at all, and thus imply there are only radical Islamist fighters fighting against Assad is not only wrong, but in fact exactly the kind of misinformation Assad and Russia have been playing at since th

Who is pushing for Syrian intervention ?

It's certainly true, though, that the secular moderate fighters are on the government's side. And they, certainly, can't all like Assad, since the majority are conscripts, but fear Islamic extremists coming into Alawite territory and Damascus proper to take revenge. We should make it very clear tha

Who is pushing for Syrian intervention ?

Let's back up a little bit. I mentioned "moderate rebels" originally to describe the people who had been helpful allies to the US five years ago, were well on their way to winning the struggle against Assad, and precisely because of their moderate tendencies were targeted by Assad and Russia.

Who is pushing for Syrian intervention ?

Free Syrian Army

Ceased to be a cogent organisation years ago (and wasn't really to begin with) in terms of its early, sole anti-Assad position. It's now effectively a Turkish-backed cypher, and always had a questionable record of alleged war crimes and links to Jihadi groups dating back to 2011

Which groups are you talking about?

And what was a Coalition (if not solely US-led) intervention going to achieve before Russian involvement?

Rojava of Northern Syria is worth protecting

Agreed. Rojava is one of the few positives to come of this conflict in that it has

Trump Plans to Deploy Troops to Mexican Border to Thwart Immigrants

It would be interesting to see if Nato would actually defend us.

The US is effectively NATO, so I imagine in the event of the US completely upturning the charter by invading a member state, it'd be a moot point by then.

There's been a few times when the US intervened in Commonwealth realms wh

The Catholic Church is the one true church

The crusades? The inquisition? Both responses to Muslim encroachment.

The so-called Crusades were responses to buttblasted Byzantines shouting "plz halp" when they got slapped around by Seljuk Turks.

Pessimism

Because Futurism is dead, it's no longer the 1960s, and the fall of the Wall ushered in not the End of History but a new age of cynicism.

As Pink says, irony (or, to put it more accurately, its generous application) is seductive, and sincerity requires a bit of vulnerable exposure on the part of

Tougher U.S. stance toward Russia shaped over months

It possibly is a concerted effort to be appear more overtly hawkish on Russia. More likely it's the State Department and the Pentagon operating more independently, as they often do, regardless of any Presidential or White House preference.

Edward Snowden: Facebook is a surveillance company rebranded as 'social
media'

Far fewer eyes were batted when the Obama campaign won two elections by virtue of their forward thinking online presence, which did indeed include an incredible amount of data collection. I can't take credit for digging up this 2012 article, but it is revealing all the same.

I think there is qu

Why is it even up for debate ?

Fox is contesting your spurious interpretation of the chronology, not your views on the act of bestiality itself.

Trump ousts Tillerson, will replace him as secretary of state with CIA
chief Pompeo

Pompeo's position on Iran is in-line with Trump's - in that he agrees the Iran deal is allegedly an act of national humiliation for the US.

A saving grace of Tillerson was his continuing advocacy for the deal.

Government by self-immolation continues in the US nonetheless.

It's Time to Abolish ICE

By putting ICE under the scope of DHS, the government framed immigration as a national security issue rather than an issue of community development, diversity or human rights.

When has national security not been a crucial if not the central element of immigration policy?

Are video games political (poll)?

I had forgotten how I derailed that thread.

Christ my phrasing was cringeworthy in first year of uni.

Oddly enough, my views haven't changed on the subject. Bethesda were lazy and didn't explore at all the consequences or dynamics of the Civil War, as the end result materially changes very lit
